MINDFULNESS

Take a deep breath

Mindfulness is paying attention to what’s happening in your life while it’s happening without judging it. When we are mindful, we are open, curious, and accepting of our thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations. Mindfulness helps us to cope with stress by teaching us how to respond effectively rather than react impulsively. Meditation practice helps cultivate our ability to be mindful in our lives.

I have been practicing meditation for over 9 years and have attended numerous meditation retreats. My personal practice allows me to teach meditation in a way that is informed by my own lived experience. I enjoy introducing newbies to meditation and helping experienced meditators deepen their practice. I teach meditation as a self-discovery practice and a tool for self-care and stress management. I have led meditation trainings for yoga studios, University faculty, physicians-in-training, and community groups. I have also shared meditation at the Danville Illinois Correctional Center through the Education Justice Project.

A Qualified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher, I received intensive instructor training through the University of California, San Diego’s Center for Mindfulness. My training has included trauma-sensitive mindfulness, mindful self-compassion, and mindfulness for racial justice. I have attended meditation experiences and intensive training with world renowned teachers including Jon Kabat-Zinn, Chris Germer, Kristin Neff, Rhonda McGee, Dr. Gail Parker, and David Treleaven.

I offer private and group sessions, classes, workshops, and corporate mindfulness meditation training.
